FORBIDDEN ITEMS
WHY
Oxygen tanks, even when seemingly empty, should never be discarded into regular garbage bins because they often contain residual pressurized gas that can lead to explosions if punctured, compressed by trash compactors, or exposed to heat, posing severe safety risks to waste collection workers, landfill operators, and the public.
Such improper disposal is also often illegal under hazardous waste regulations and can contribute to environmental hazards if the
tanks corrode or leak over time.
PROPER DISPOSAL
To properly dispose of an oxygen tank, first ensure it is fully depressurized by a professional if possible, then return it to the original supplier or a medical
equipment provider for refilling, recycling, or safe decommissioning; alternatively, contact local hazardous waste facilities, fire departments, or recycling centers for guidance on drop-off programs or collection events specific to your area.
